Gabby Sidibe was on the Wendy Williams Show today. Sporting a dark blue pair of jeans and burgundy top ensemble with shoe cam worthy shoes, she sat comfortably on Wendy’s couch.

Even though some people like Howard Stern and Joan Cusak who stated to her, “Oh honey, you should really quit the business,” thought because of her weight she wouldn’t get good acting roles, she has proved naysayers wrong by thriving in the industry, where even skinny minnies are struggling... This is a testament to diligently pursuing whatever dream God puts in you because he will make a way for you that will confuse and confound those who doubted you regardless of what the “ideal” type for that industry is. Do I hear an Amen?

The Oscar nominated Sista is currently starring on The Big C where her character, Andrea is sporting an afro because she just cam back from Africa, has embraced her heritage and adopted the name, Ababu. However, she says it’s an afro weave and said of the weave, “I can’t control it and I need it (her hair) to swing.”

She’s half Senegalese and half African American, which she called being “Black and Blacker.” When asked if she went through a phase of embracing her “Africanness,” like so many African Americans do she said, “No. I’ve been to Africa plenty of times and I speak Wolof.” I was so pleased to her that because I’m tired of seeing kids abandoned by their foreign parent in America, which causes serious identity issues for them, but obviously her father, Ibnou Sidibe is a responsible African man, who I thoroughly appreciate and I would encourage more foreign absentee fathers to emulate his responsible behavior.

Her break out role in Precious redefined what it means to be a Hollywood “It Girl” and she recently won the Shining Star Award at the Dallas Film Festival based on her role in Precious, Tower Heist and The Big C. Although she’s only been actress a short time and has a short resume, in that short time she’s made enviable strides. When asked how she spent her time in Texas when she went to receive the award she said, “I wanted to go gay line dancing, so I asked my weekend hair stylist and he told me to go to the “Gayborhood,” which is a gay neighborhood and they were having the S4, which is a big drag show. It was good.”

The fun loving girl who will turn 29 this Sunday said she was in 2 year relationship with her “gentleman caller,” that ran its course, but is over now. She said “I like men who are fun and have imagination. I ask them to wish on a star or what would they do if they had a time machine. If their wish isn’t imaginative enough…” When asked about what she would do if she had a time machine, she said, “I would play with my mom as a child.” This is a testament to the close bond between her and her mom, Alice Tan Ridley who is a Gospel & R&B singer, which is priceless.

Her show, The Big C airs Sunday nights at 9 PM make sure you watch to support a down to earth Sista who is defying the odds and is comfortable in her own dark and lovely skin!
