As she played her fun loving mother role on TV, she was dealingwith her own family drama. In her new book Untied, she shares about her life.It seems like the reality of her life came out of left field for some peoplewho assumed her on TV role was her real life. She said she has happy memoriesfrom Family Ties because as she said, “It was an oasis and safe place for me. Weall have a real love, respect and regard for each other. We played togetherwhen we weren’t taping.” She was also Michael J. Fox’s commuting buddy. As shesaid, “He wasn’t driving and I’d pick him up in the back alley of his apartment.When I got there the first day, I was honking the horn and I heard the shower gooff. I forgot he’s like a teenage boy... .
About her marriage and abuse, she said she was raised withrejection and emotional abandonment and was forced to call her mother by her firstname, because she was an unfulfilled woman who lived with the pain of notrealizing her dream of becoming an actress. Due to this, she said, “I didn’trecognize a real relationship when I saw it.” She and her husband David Bernie were marriedfor 15 years and he is the father of 3 of her 5 kids. On why she got married she said, “I had never seen a healthy relationship. I just wanted to hold any port in the storm.” She claims therelationship consisted of abuse, which ran the gamut from mental to physicalabuse.  She also shared that abusedoesn’t have to happen a lot because as she shared, “I find in domesticabuse, it’s the corrosive effect that’s devastating someone whose confidents’fiber can be worn to death.”.She later realized she is a lesbian and years later she cameout on the Today show. Although some say she was forced out, but she said shehad gone on a lesbian cruise with a girlfriend, and her friends and familyknew, but  no one in the media knew America’sfavorite mom, is a lesbian, people were calling saying they had pictures andshe received a tabloid questionnaire. So she realized that the media can take aseed of truth they destroy it, so she asked to be booked the today show andtalked about it herself, which she said felt like setting herself of fire, butshe took control of something that would have been in the hands of the media.She is in a relationship and promoting her new book Untied.Feel free to pick up a copy on Untied.
